Industries in Jind

Jind is the central district of Haryana. Owing to the rough terrain of the district, the region does not have much agricultural cultivation. Industries forms the main backbone of Jind economy and various industries contribute to the coffers of the government treasury. During the erstwhile period the region was more into setting up of cottage industries such as tanning, carpentry, oil pressing, gold and silver smitheries.

The ruler Raja Raghbir Singh used to encourage the natives of the district to involve in manufacturing and uphold the local art. The king also facilitated craftsman in learning new skills by going to other regions.

Emergence of Jind as Industrial Area

In the 19th century, two cotton – ginning factories were established in Jind district. But this did not take off in a large scale. It is only after Independence that industries were well-established in Jind district. Post the establishment of Haryana as a separate state in the year 1966 is when Jind saw a considerable number of industries being established in the district.

The initial medium scale factories set up in Jind where, factories manufacturing radio, electrical goods, chemicals and plastic products. The first large unit to be established in Jind was the Milk plant at Jind and this was in the year 1970.The other industries that was established after this period was a unit manufacturing steel products in the year 1973 and a cattle feed unit in the year 1974.

The plant is stretched over a vast area of 18 acres and has a capacity of processing one lack liters a day. This was the first modern dairy plant that was established in Haryana. The aim of establishing this factory was to increase the livelihood of the farmers of this district. Haryana had surplus milk and it was to channelize all the supply to the factory. The factory produces milk powder, ghee and paneer. The factory is looked after by a union.

Cattle Feed Unit of Jind

The unit was initially established with an investment of 47.30 lakhs. Currently it has been developed in to a large scale by putting in more investment. The raw-materials required for processing cattle feed, is obtained from the various markets of the nearby districts. Cattle feed is purchased, by villagers in Haryana and the demand is extremely high in the rural area.

  • Furniture made out of wood and steel
  • Handmade and printing paper

Other Small Scale Industries in Jind

There are a number of small scale industries that operate in Jind even today. It was first encouraged by the king of Jind district and provides employment to a number of people especially women in Jind.

Unit Manufacturing of Agricultural Implements

To carry out farming a number of agricultural implements are needed and the unit manufacturers various implements. The products are; ploughs wheat threshers, trolleys and cultivators.

Leather Tanning and Leather Goods

This is a set up that still involves a number of villagers. Many tanning units are set up and local shoe makers use these in manufacturing shoes. These are sold across various districts of our Country. Many leather goods such as belts and bags are also manufactured in the district.

He is assisted by block level inspectors, who look into the daily affairs of the various industries. The government provides a lot of assistance to entrepreneurs who are looking at establishing small, medium and large scale industries. Assistance are provided in terms of finance such as loans and subsidies.

Assistance is also provided in regards to raw material procurement, marketing and training owners on technology advancements. This has enabled Jind district in becoming an industrial district. Since the year 2010 mining is banned in Jind.
