Administration of Jind

Jind is one of the oldest districts in Haryana and it was formed on 1st of November 1966. The administrative set up is extremely organized and works efficiently. There are different department and the concerned authorities’ looks after various functions of the department. Jind sub – division is classified into three groups. The divisions are Jind, Julana Tehsil & Sub-Tehsil Alewa. There are four Tehsils in Jind and they are: Jind, Safidon, Narwana & Julana. Jind is further classified into three towns and 307 villages. Out of the 307 villages 303 villages are inhabited and 4 villages are uninhabited.

Deputy Commissioner of Jind

The broad-spectrum of administration of Jind is undertaken by the Deputy Commissioner. The deputy commissioners reports into the Divisional commissioner of Hisar, for all administrative purposes. The deputy commissioner also acts as the divisional magistrate and also the collector of the district. The deputy commissioner is considered as the executive head of the district. The various roles and responsibilities vested to the deputy commissioner are taking care of the panchayats, local bodies, and overall development of the district and undertaking all the civil administration work. Each dividsion under the deputy commissioner, is headed by an assistant who looks after the working of each branch and they report into the deputy commissioner.

The deputy commissioner acts as a liaison officer with all the other departments. He heads the revenue department and ensures the timely collection of revenues. When it is election time, the deputy commissioner acts as the election officer and he has to look after all the registration works of the various candidates of his constituency.


District Magistrate in Jind

The incumbent of the role of district magistrate has to ensure that law and order is maintained in the district. All affairs leading to criminal administration and policing has to be taken care of. Any displaced people who needs rehabilitation, falls under the purview of the district magistrate. Suitable allotments have to be made to them according to the law of the land.

The other roles that fall under the judiciary are: District and Session judge, Additional judge and Senior sub-judge.

Tehsildar/ Naib Tehsildar in Jind

These officers constitute as assistant collector second grade. The tehsildar and naib tehsildar are the most important officers in the revenue department. They have to ensure the timely collection of revenues and participate in all disputes relating to partition. Land revenues are collected by the subordinates of the tehsildars.In case of failure of seasonal crops, cultivators approach tehsildars and they have to take decisions on distributing loans and other financial assistance to farmers. Detailed reports on loan assistance have to be made by the office of tehsildar and the reports have to be submitted to the government in a timely manner.


Police in Jind

The law and order of Jind is the responsibility of the Superintendent of police. He reports to the deputy commissioner. Two other deputy Superintendents of police are appointed and they work with the Superintendent of the police. All of them have to ensure that stringent rules are in place and there is no criminal activity in the district. The safety of the natives has to be upheld at all times.

The primary responsibility of the deputy commissioner is to ensure the smooth running of all the divisions.
